Texas Tech Men's Tennis Team Thrashed UT Arlington, 6-1

LUBBOCK, Texas- - The No. 54 Texas Tech men's tennis team thrashed University of Texas-Arlington today, 6-1. The Red Raiders went into the tournament as the No. 1 seed and will be playing again some time Saturday afternoon. Texas Tech is now 9-1 in the season and still 3-0 in Big 12 play. At No. 1 singles, freshman Diederik de Groot was victorious over Nathan McGregor, 6-4, 6-2. For the No. 2 slot, senior Alfonso Perez defeated David Corrie, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6. Playing the No. 3 spot, sophomore Esat Tanik was successful over Javier Carillo, 6-4, 6-2. Senior Devin Wakeford was triumphant over Niels Buksik at the No. 4 slot, 6-4, 6-1. In the No. 5 position, sophomore Michael Innerebner destroyed Sandy Farguharson, 6-1, 6-3. For No. 6 singles, senior John Walker was not able to overcome Ian Vazquez, 6-4, 6-2. The Red Raiders completely dominated the doubles category. At the No. 1 position, the duo of de Groot and Wakeford overpowered McGregor and Fargharson, 8-2. The No. 2 team of Perez and Tanik prevailed over Buksik and Corrie, 8-4. While the pair of Innerebner and sophomore Jonathan John at the No. 3 slot controlled Carillo and Alon Goldshuv, 8-5.
