LUBBOCK, Texas - Matt Smith and Tyler Reves each had three hits and combined for seven RBI as Texas Tech snapped a six-game Big 12 losing skid with a convincing 13-1 win over the Missouri Tigers on Friday evening in front of 3,218 fans at Dan Law Field.

The win gives Texas Tech a two-game win streak and the Red Raiders improve to 29-20-1 overall and to 7-13-1 in league play. Tech's win over Missouri coupled with Kansas State's loss at Texas A&M gives the Red Raiders a two-and-a-half game lead over the Wildcats for eighth place in the Big 12 standings.

The Red Raiders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when junior catcher Tyler Reves delivered a two-out RBI single to left field. Reves' single scored Roger Kieschnick who reached on an infield hit.

Missouri came right back in the top the second and tied the game when nine-hole hitter Gary Arndt belted a two-out RBI single that scored Hunter Mense.

Sophomore designated hitter Matt Smith helped key a three-run charge by the Red Raiders in the top of the third when he laced a bases-clearing two RBI double down the left field line. Junior shortstop Kyle Martin plated the final run of the frame with a base hit to left that allowed Smith to score from second.

After taking a 6-1 lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Red Raiders broke the game open by exploding for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Tech offense pounded out seven hits in the frame including a lead-off home run by Jason Seefeld. Tyler Reves followed up his sixth inning two-run homer with a two-run single in the frame that gave him a career-high five RBI.

Miles Morgan (6-5) picked up the win for Tech by going 7 2/3 innings allowing one run on seven hits while striking out five. Nathan Culp (9-5) was charged with the loss for Missouri after giving up a career-high eight runs on 12 hits over five innings of work.

Texas Tech will go for the series win on Saturday afternoon when the two clubs meet at Dan Law Field for game-two of this three-game series. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
