AMES, Iowa - Shannon Spaulding and Jonathan Johnson both raced to first place finishes in the 800-Meter run at the ISU Last Chance Meet Friday in Ames, Iowa, and in the process automatically qualified for the NCAA national meet next weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.

Spaulding cut just over two seconds off her season best time of 2 minutes 7.92 seconds by posting a time of 2:05.77 while Johnson finished with a time of 1:48.00 1.57 seconds faster than his previous season low.

The men's 4x4 relay team also turned in an NCAA qualifying time of 3:07.59. Ivory McCann ran the first leg of the relay in 46.9 seconds followed by Albert Booker who matched McCann's time. The third leg was run by Jason Lovell who posted a time of 47.00 with Johnson anchoring the team with a time of 46.4. The all-freshmen team finished third in their heat but the time currently ranks fifth in the nation.

Next weekend will mark the end of the indoor track season as the best athletes will meet at the University of Arkansas for bragging rights at the NCAA national indoor meet.
