PHILADELPHIA - The Temple volleyball team defeated the George Washington Colonials, 3-1, Friday night at McGonigle Hall. Temple came out strong, winning the first two games, 30-19 and 30-24, before being edged in the third game, 30-28. The Owls won the fourth and decisive game, 30-21.
Junior Yue Liu continued to lead the Owls on the offensive end, making 22 kills and five blocks. Sophomore Patricia Vernon stepped up her play from the very beginning, notching four of her 16 kills in game one. She also made five blocks. Senior Maira Mogollon dished out 49 assists and junior Ying Sun Ling added 12 kills. Defensively, senior Yan Liu, racked up 24 digs while junior Christina DeMarco contributed nine kills and five blocks.
The Owls out-hit the Colonials, recording 70 kills to GW's 54. Janine Brown led GW on both the offensive (13 kills) and defensive ends (19 digs). Her teammate Abba Greenleaf added 11 kills.
Temple improves to 11-10 overall, 4-3 in the A-10, while the Colonials fall to 1-5 in the A-10 and 8-10 overall.
Temple takes the floor again tomorrow afternoon against Charlotte at 4:00 p.m.
