HANNAHOE NETS TWO FOR 2-1 OVERTIME WIN OVER UMASS

PHILADELPHIA -- Megan Hannahoe netted two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to give Temple a 2-1 win over visiting Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon.  With the victory, the Owls improve to 10-9 overall, 5-1 in A-10 play, and secures their place in the A-10 Tournament going into the final week of competition.  The Minutewomen, who have dropped two straight, fall to 6-12 and 3-3 in Conference play.

The Owls dominated the opening minutes of play, narrowly missing the cage several times before Hannahoe was able to convert.  Hannahoe gave Temple the 1-0 advantage 14 minutes into the contest after collecting a rebound off of the goalie's pads.  Though UMass found its offensive rhythm towards the second half of the opening period, Temple's defense held strong and allowed the 1-0 score to stand going into the half.

After losing their coach to a red card, the Minutewomen returned in the second half looking to equalize and eventually gain the win.  Temple was able to hold on throughout most of the half but with just seven minutes remaining, UMass scored a goal to send the game into overtime.  Senior Jaime Bowden scored her third goal of the season unassisted.

Temple fought hard in the overtime period and was able to earn a penalty corner, which would eventually decide the outcome of the game.   Lindsay Holman hit the ball out to the top the circle, where Alli Lokey collected it and pushed it to Hannahoe, who blasted a shot past UMass goalie Heather Ryan just five minutes into the extra period.

Temple held a 9-5 advantage in penalty corners and a 13-11 advantage in shots.

Temple goalkeeper freshman Erin Hanshue earned five saves in the win.

Temple wraps up the regular season with a home game against A-10 and Philly rival Saint Joseph's on Saturday, October 29 at 12 p.m.  The Owls will also honor their seven seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
