Providence, R.I. - The Temple women's basketball team (15-8, 8-4) had its four-game winning streak come to a screeching halt with an upset loss at Rhode Island (10-14, 3-9) 70-66 in overtime.

The game was a struggle for the Owls throughout as they trailed at halftime 37-31 and had to scramble with a 10-2 run in the final six minutes to tie the contest at the end of regulation 61-61. Temple opened the extra session by hitting a three-pointer, but the Rams sealed the victory with a six to two run.

Temple shot just 27 percent in the second half but stayed in the game with perfect free throw shooting (8-8) and 36 percent three-point shooting. For one of the few times this season, the Owls were outrebounded for the game 38-36.

Sophomore guard Stacey Smalls led Temple with 19 points. Senior guard Natalia Isaac (14) was the only other Owl to score in double figures. Junior forward Athena Christoforakis was Temple's leading rebounder with a career-high 15 boards.

Rhode Island had four players in double figures led by Yatar Kuyateh with 19 points. Lindsey O'Neil (13), Vedrana Bajagic (13), and Shayla Johnson (12) also scored in double digits for the Rams. Kuyateh also led Rhode Island in rebounding with 10 boards to record a double-double.

The Owls next travel to New York to face the Fordham Rams on Friday, February 16 at 7:00 p.m.
