Philadelphia, Pa. (March 24) - The Temple men's and women's outdoor track teams kicked off their season in the Quaker Invitational at the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday. Both the men and women had five athletes place in the top five in various events. Sophomore Naomi Beverly led the way for the Owls finishing first in the 200m dash with a time of 25.28 and second in the 100m dash (12.47). Senior Afia Brown placed first in the 100m dash with a time of 12.41. In the 400m dash, freshman Samantha Porter finished third (59.16). Freshman Rashida Stamps came in third in the shot put with a distance of 11.99m. Temple's relay team finished second in the 4x100m relay and fourth in the 4x400 (47.7, 4:08.8). For the men, freshman Jason Forbes had a strong outing placing first in the triple jump and second in the long jump (14.24m, 6.82m). Sophomore Robert Leite-Young also placed in the triple jump finishing third with a distance of 13.93m. Law student Robert Lythgoe finished first in the 1,500m run with a time of 3:59.34 and seventh in the 800m run (1:57.82). Freshman pole vaulter Kevin Kelly placed second with a height of 4.25m. Sophomore Daniel Stevens finished second overall in the 800m run (1:55.78). Freshman Bryan Adams placed fifth in the 400 m hurdles with a time of 57.82. In the 4x400 m relay the Owls' came in second with a time of 3:19.81. The Owls are in action next weekend, March 30 and 31 at the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina
