MEN'S GYMNASTICS DUKES-OUT HOME OPENING VICTORY

PHILADELPHIA-Temple, in its first home meet of the season, defeated James Madison 202.975-181.550 at McGonigle Hall on Sunday, January 26, 2003. The Owls swept all six events and were particularly impressive on vault and rings, where the team posted scores of 36.525 and 36.000, respectively.

In addition to winning all six rotations, Temple boasted the individual winner on each event and captured first, second and third place in five of six rotations. Seniors Alex Weber and Richard Maguire, the defending ECAC All-Around Champion, put on a show, winning five events between them. Weber was victorious on floor exercise (8.950), pommel horse (8.800) and parallel bars (8.500). Maguire won the rings (9.450) and vault (9.500).

Temple senior Adam Owens owned the best score on high bar, with an 8.300 effort.

The Owls did not have an all-around competitor. Weber (FX, PH, R, PB) and junior Travis Kitchen (FX, PH, PB, HB) each competed in four events for Temple.

The Dukes top finish of the day belonged to sophomore Brett Wargo, who finished second on high bar with a 7.950 score.

Temple, under the direction of head coach Fred Turoff, returns to action next Saturday, Feb. 1, with a 1:00 p.m. meet at Army featuring Southern Connecticut and James Madison.
