TEMPLE FINISHES FOURTH AT JOHN MACDONALD CLASSIC

ABSECON, NJ -- Connecticut's Jason Parajeckas birdied the first playoff hole to capture the individual title and Loyola won its second straight team championship at the John MacDonald Classic on Tuesday. Temple, which hosted the event at the par-71, 6,374-yard Galloway National Golf Course in Absecon, N.J., finished in a tie for fourth place. Senior Billy Mullen paced the Owls with a fourth place finish (73-77-150).

Parajackas (72-72-144) was the leader in the clubhouse and would have won the tournament outright if not for Iona's Paul Selvaggio (76-68-144), who shot a tourney low 68 on Tuesday to put both players at two-over-par. For the second straight year at the John MacDonald Classic, two players joined an entourage on the first tee for a playoff to determine the individual winner.

Parajackas hit his drive in the rough on the left side, just staying out of a fairway bunker on the par four, 370-yard first hole. Selvaggio hit a big, sweeping draw that cut the corner of the dogleg right and landed approximately 100 yards from the green. Parajackas then hit his approach shot six feet from the flag, while Selvaggio's wedge put him 20 feet to the left of the pin. Selvaggio just slid his putt to the right and tapped in for par. Parajackas found the center of the cup on his putt to win the tournament title.

Temple sophomore Logan Terry finished in a tie for 16th place with a 75-81-156. He was followed by Pat O'Neill (79-79-157) and James Boose (80-83-163). Senior Brad Roberts, competing as an individual, carded a 74-79-153 to tie for 11th place.

Loyola (295-309-604) held off a surging Iona (307-303-610) squad to win the tournament for the second straight year. Seton Hall (311-311-622), Temple (307-319-626) and Connecticut (317-309-626) rounded out the top five.

The John MacDonald Classic, named after the long-time Temple mentor, is in its third year of existence and honors the profound personal contribution of over 30 years of service to the University. Iona took home the inaugural title in 2002 and Loyola captured victory last season.
