FLOURTOWN, PA -- The Temple University golf team was unable to defend its title and finished 12th out of 13 schools after shooting a two round, 66-over par 634 (315-319) at the Big 5 Classic. The tournament, played in windy and blustery conditions, took place Saturday and Sunday, October 16-17, on the par 71, 6,867-yard Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Temple senior Billy Mullen paced the Owls, shooting a nine-over par 151 (77-74) to finish tied for 11th place in the 65-player event. Sophomore Logan Terry was the team's next top performer, carding a 16-over 158 (76-82) to finish tied for 40th position. Senior Matt Roberts (53rd, 81-81=162), freshman Pat Garrison (t-54th, 81-82=163) and freshman James Boose (t-57th, 82-82=164) comprised the rest of the Cherry & White scorecard.
Princeton won the tournament with a 21-over 589 (296-293) score to finish 10 strokes ahead of second place William & Mary. The Tigers' Jason Gerken utililized a pair of even par, 71 rounds to win the individual crown with a 142 score as not a single player completed the tournament under par. He finished four strokes in front of second place Ted Nashville (75-71=146) of Penn State.
The Owls, under the direction of first-year coach Brian Rogers, host the John MacDonald Classic at Galloway (N.J.) National Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday, October 25-26 to conclude their fall season.
