MARYLAND TAKES 1ST-ROUND LEAD IN TEMPLE GOLF INVITATIONAL
 

 
 
 

 

 
 

MOOSIC, PA-Led by freshman Jeff Spradlin's two-under-par round of 69, Maryland took the first-round lead in the 13-team Temple Invitational Golf Tournament, which opened today at Glenmaura National Golf Club.

Coach Tom Hanna's Terripins finished the day with a combined team score of 287, five strokes better that Princeton and Central Connecticut, which tied for second at 293. Georgetown (295) and George Washington (297) rounded out the top five, while the host Owls placed sixth at 299.

Spradlin, who blistered the front nine with a four-under-par 31, tied with Erik Easton of Central Connecticut for low individual. Easton played his round in an equally impressive 33-36. Dan MacDonald (71, tied for fifth) and Bobby MacWhinnie (72, tied for ninth) also finished among the top 10 for Maryland.

Final-round play will get underway with the leading teams teeing off first at 9:00 a.m. Saturday on the rugged 6,595-yard Glenmaura National course.
