MIDDLETOWN, DE -- The Temple University men's golf team shot a two-round 590 (297-293) to win the Scotty Duncan Memorial, played at the Par 71 Frog Hollow Golf Club, for the second straight year. The Owls, who trailed by seven strokes after Sunday's opening round, bested second place Liberty (290-304=594) by 11 swings on Monday to win the 10-team event by four strokes.
Senior team captain Billy Mullen (72-72) and sophomore James Boose (72-72) each carded two-over par 144's on the 6,589-yard course to finish tied for second in the 50-player field. It marks the tenth career top ten finish for Mullen, who won the individual crown at the Navy Spring Invitational (April 16-17) in the team's last outing.
Senior Patrick O'Neill rebounded from an opening round 80 to shoot a 73 on Monday to finish tied for 15th with a 153 total. Senior Matt Roberts (74-81) and sophomore Logan Terry (79-76) finished tied for 18th with 155 totals to complete the scorecard as every Cherry & White entry finished among the top twenty.
The tournament victory is the first for head coach Brian Rogers, who is in his initial season directing the Temple golf program. It also marks the first event win for the Owls since winning the Scotty Duncan in April of last year.
Drexel (301-294=595) finished third and host Delaware (301-301=602) placed fourth. The Dragons' Joe April shot a 69 Sunday and a 74 Monday to finish at 143 to take the individual title, one stroke better than Mullen, Boose and teammate Steve Ransom.
Temple returns to the links at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Championship, to be played this weekend, May 6-8, at Newport National Golf Club in Middletown, RI.
