SIX OWLS NAMED TO 2001 BIG EAST ALL-ACADEMIC FOOTBALL TEAM ::

Six Temple University student-athletes were today (Monday, February 11, 2002) named to the 2001 Big East Conference All-Academic football team.

"When I came to Temple University, we did not have a single football player on scholarship with a 3.0 cumulative grade point average," said head coach Bobby Wallace. "This past football season, we had 18 student-athletes named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll with grade point averages of 3.0 or better in the fall semester. I believe this reflects the progress this program has made in the classroom. Academic success is a result of greater effort and dedication which translates to more positive results on the football field."

The All-Academic Team recognizes letterwinners who have posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or better. Student-athletes who have completed a minimum of two semesters of academic work are eligible. It is the 11th consecutive season the BIG EAST has honored its student-athletes with an academic team.

The Owls have four repeat performers on the All-Academic Team in seniors Kevin Czaban, Jason McKie and Devin Scott and junior Jared Davis.

The Temple University Football team won its final two games in 2001 en route to its second consecutive 4-7 season. The Owls finished sixth in the Big East Conference with a 2-5 league mark.

Temple begins spring practice on Monday, April 1. The annual Cherry & White football game is scheduled for Saturday, April 27.
