April 9, 2007

PHILADELPHIA - Temple junior Tom Dolan has been named a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week after striking out 16 batters in eight innings on Sunday, the publication announced today. Dolan allowed just one earned run and had a no-hitter into the seventh inning. He whiffed a career-high 16 batters, which is tops in the Atlantic 10 this season. The southpaw was also named the Philadelphia Big 5 Pitcher of the Week and is on the College Baseball Foundation's National Honor Roll.

Other than a wind-aided homerun in the seventh that broke up his no-hitter and shutout attempt, Dolan did not allow a runner past first base. He scattered three hits and has now allowed just four earned runs in his past 36 innings of work (1.00 ERA). The southpaw is 4-2 with a 1.80 ERA this season.

Dolan left the game with a 6-1 lead after eighth and the Owls held on for a 6-5 win. TU won the nightcap on Sunday, 12-6, for its first A-10 series victory of the season.

He shares the award with West Virginia's Josh Whitlock, Holy Cross' Scott Hampe, Central Missouri's Josh Paul, South Carolina's Travis Jones and Texas A&M's Kyle Thebeau.

The Owls (10-17, 4-5 A-10) host Villanova on Tuesday at 3:30 PM.
