Volleyball announces postseason awards
Jan. 25, 2007 FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team held its annual postseason banquet during which it handed out its end-of-the year awards. Senior middle blocker Anna Vaughn earned two awards, as did sophomore setter Nirelle Hampton. Freshman middle blocker Kourtney Edwards and junior libero Calli Corley were honored as well. The Frogs finished the regular season 17-15, posting their third winning season in the last four years. Vaughn leaves TCU as the leader in career hitting percentage. The distinction is the result of four strong seasons as the middle blocker. She was honored with the top hitting percentage award for the fourth straight campaign She finished her career with a .328 hitting percentage. Her 408 kills this season were also tops on the squad, earning her the award for most kills. It marked the second straight year she earned the award. While not finishing first in total aces this season, Vaughn finished her career as the all-time leader in career aces with 141. In just her second season in the Purple and White, setter Hampton was honored with two season awards. She earned the award for most assists this season, finishing with 1,295. She has moved into the top three all-time in career assists with a two-year total of 2,520. On pace to break Vaughn's career aces record, Hampton also snagged the award for most aces this season with 45. She has a career total of 102 aces and currently sits in fifth place all-time. As the fulltime libero, Corley earned the award for most digs this past season. She tallied 537 to climb into sixth place on the all-time charts. Corley has 868 career digs. Making a splash in her first season of collegiate volleyball, Edwards, a redshirt-freshman, earned the award for most blocks. The Haltom City, Texas native topped the squad with 123 total blocks. TCU finished the season 17-15 and will return four starters and 10 lettermen next season.
