Women's tennis holds No. 16 ranking
May 1, 2006 FORT WORTH, Texas - After posting an 11-0 record in league play and grabbing the 2006 Mountain West Conference regular-season and tournament championships in its inaugural season, the TCU women's tennis team will head into the 2006 NCAA Tournament ranked 16th in the ITA polls. As a team, the Frogs have three ranked players in singles and two doubles teams. Sophomore Nicole Leimbach jumped two spots in the poll to occupy the No. 15 slot. The Colorado Springs, Colo., product received All-MWC plaudits in singles action after going 6-2 at No. 1. Leimbach tallied a 2-0 record at the conference tournament, including a 6-4, 6-1 victory over 24th-ranked Olga Boulytcheva of BYU. Senior Helena Besovic ranks 28th in singles after posting a 21-3 record during the spring. Besovic garnered All-MWC accolades and heads into the NCAA Tournament on a 17-match win streak. Also a strong player in doubles, Besovic holds the No. 13 spot when paired with junior Ana Cetnik and the No. 20 position when teamed with freshman Anna Sydorska. The tandem of Besovic and Cetnik was named to the 2006 Mountain West Conference doubles squad. Sydorska, the 2006 MWC Freshman of the Year, is ranked 108th in singles. Hailing from Lviv, Ukraine, Sydorska grabbed all-conference honors in doubles alongside sophomore Andrea Morgado. The Frogs finished the season with an overall record of 21-6. The team awaits its next opponent and will discover its assignment on Wednesday when the 2006 NCAA Tournament field is announced on ESPNEWS.
