Final Stats

Fort Worth, Texas - The No. 17 TCU women's tennis team shut out No. 74 Houston, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the C-USA Championships that are being held at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. On the top half of the bracket, No. 1 seed and 16th-ranked Tulane topped No. 51 South Florida, 4-1, to set up the finals match-up between the Frogs and the Green Wave for the third straight season.

"We came out with a great intensity today," said Head Coach Dave Borelli. "This week, we haven't even talked about winning this thing because we're just focusing on coming out and giving our maximum effort each match. I really don't worry about who we play, we just have to come out tomorrow and worry about ourselves. If we show up with that attitude then things will take care of themselves."

The Frogs won the doubles point for the 20th time this season to take the early 1-0 lead. Helena Besovic and Kewa Nichols started things off by topping Yolandi Terblanche and Tiffany McLaughlin, 8-3. The victory is the pair's second straight win in only five matches this season. Seniors Paige Brown and Karla Mancinas clinched the point by defeating Diana Martin and Kami Miller, 8-3. The victory pushes their overall record to 11-1 this spring.

In singles, the Frogs put away the match with victories at two, three and six. No. 55 Besovic notched her 32nd victory by crushing Martin, 6-3, 6-0, at the two line. Junior Gloriann Lopez tallied the third point with a 6-2, 6-0 win over McLaughlin at six. Nichols clinched TCU's 20th win on the year when she beat Bateup in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.

The Frogs will look to snap a five-match losing streak to the Green Wave on Sunday at 12 p.m. The past two seasons, Tulane has claimed the conference title winning 4-0 in 2003 and 4-1 last season. On April 9, the Green Wave edged the Frogs, 4-3, in Fort Worth.
