Final Stats

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 35 TCU women's tennis team recorded their third consecutive 7-0 victory on Sunday against Wyoming and claimed a share of the regular season Mountain West Conference title. The win improved the Horned Frogs to 16-8 overall and 7-1 in MWC play, while dropping Wyoming to 6-14 on the season and 2-6 in conference action.

The Frogs finished in a tie with BYU for the regular season conference title.

"We finished strong and had an excellent weekend," said TCU head coach Jefferson Hammond. "I'm very excited for the players, staff and school as we locked up a share of the regular season conference title. A lot of work has gone in across the board and we've improved along the way and grown as a team."

Andrea Morgado and Karine Ionesco led off doubles play with an 8-1 victory over Carolina Chaix and Jamie Nelson at the No. 3 position.

Kewa Nichols and Ana Cetnik followed to clinch the doubles point for TCU with an 8-2 win over Wyoming's Michelle Brown and Corina Lazar, while Anna Sydorska and Nina Munch-Soegaard secured the sweep at the No. 1 slot with an 8-2 victory over Andrea House and Karolina Rowinski.

No. 43 Cetnik notched her 10th consecutive singles victory to put the Frogs up 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Brown at the No. 3 position.

Morgado followed at the No. 5 slot to defeat Nelson, 6-0, 6-3, and No. 93 Munch-Soegaard defeated Rowinski, 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the match for TCU. The victory was the freshman's 20th of the season.

 

 

Ionesco continued with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Chaix, followed by Nichols defeating House 6-3, 6-2 to notch her 12th consecutive singles victory, which started on March 14.

No. 58 Sydorska rounded out the afternoon with a 6-7(6), 6-2, 1-0(9) victory over Lazar at the No. 2 position.

"It was a great weekend," said TCU assistant coach Colin Foster. "We came out and took care of business against three conference opponents. We had a complete effort and it's exciting to claim a share of the conference title."

The women will complete the regular season on Wednesday against No. 15 Baylor at 6 p.m. in Waco, Texas.
