Women's Tennis Defeats Marquette at C-USA Championship

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The 55th-ranked and second-seeded TCU women's tennis team defeated 10-seed Marquette, 4-1, at the Conference USA Championship in New Orleans, La. on Sunday afternoon. The win puts the Frogs in one of Monday's two semifinal matches. They will take on sixth-seeded Louisville at 9:00 a.m. This is the second year the Frogs defeated the Golden Eagles in the C-USA Championship. Last year TCU won the championship title over Marquette, 4-1. The Frogs captured the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. The 59th-ranked duo of junior Paty Aburto and senior Rosa Perez defeated Michelle Mojzis and Anna Pavlovic, 8-3, at the first position. The Frogs' second tandem of sophomore Karla Mancinas and junior Saber Pierce topped Veronica Briseno and Gen Charron, 8-2. The third match was not finished. TCU captured three singles matches during the afternoon. Aburto defeated Mojzis in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1. Pierce picked up the 6-1, 6-0 win over Annabelle Espinosa at the three spot. Mancinas' 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory against Pavlovic at No. 5 clinched the match for the Frogs. Matches at two and four were not completed after TCU clinched the match.
