Women's Tennis Falls 4-3 to San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The 36th-ranked TCU women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision at no. 29 San Diego State on Friday afternoon. The loss moves TCU's record to 4-5, while the Aztecs advance to 8-3. For the second match in a row, the Frogs won the doubles point. Junior Saber Pierce and sophomore Karla Mancinas picked up an 8-4 win over Katja Karrento and Katalina Romero at the second spot. The no. 3 doubles tandem of senior Brenna Shackelford and sophomore Ivonne Andrade earned a hard-fought 9-8 victory against Lindsey Hedberg and Patricia Graf. In singles action, 72nd-ranked junior Paty Aburto defeated Silvia Tornier at the no. 1 position, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Senior Rosa Perez claimed her eighth win of the spring with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Katalina Romero at the third spot. Pierce, playing no. 2, was forced to retire following the first set due to injury. The California road trip finishes on Saturday, March 15 with a match against the University of San Diego. Next week, the Frogs begin a four-match homestand with 53rd-ranked Kansas State on Tuesday, March 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
