No. 24 Women's Tennis Defeats Texas Tech

Lubbock, Texas - In the opening day of the Texas Tech Team Tournament, TCU topped their Texas Tech hosts in a 5-2 win. The Frogs move to 4-2 on the season, while the Red Raiders go to 1-1.
The Frogs picked up the doubles point for the first time in three matches with wins at all three positions. The 46th-ranked tandem of Paty Aburto and Rosa Perez upset the 17th-ranked pair of Irina Tereschenko and Beverly Dawson, 8-5, at No. 1, while the No. 2 duo of Katrin Gaber and Karla Mancinas beat Alenka Ovin and Kendall Brooks, 8-6. Leoni Weirich and Saber Pierce, playing No. 3, topped Barbara Schraml and Noel Ruiz, 8-1.
TCU earned singles points with straight-set wins at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6. Playing No. 2, 60th-ranked Katrin Gaber defeated Alenka Ovin, 6-3, 6-2, while Saber Pierce earned the win at No. 4 over Barbara Schraml, 6-2, 6-3. No. 5 Rosa Perez allowed the fewest singles points with her win against Noel Ruiz, 6-3, 6-0. At No. 6, Karla Mancinas topped Kendall Brooks, 6-4, 6-1.
TCU will spend the weekend in Lubbock competing at the Texas Tech Team Tournament. The Frogs will meet No. 66 New Mexico on Feb. 16 (1:00 p.m.) and No. 26 Florida International at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17.
