20 TCU Swimmers and Divers Earn Conference Honors
Feb. 25, 2002 FORT WORTH, Texas - Following impressive perfromances at last week's Conference USA Women's Championships and Men's Invitational, 20 TCU swimmers and divers have been named all-conference performers, it was announced Monday. The eight TCU women honored were named all-Conference USA performers, while 12 Frog men were named to the league's coaches' all-conference team. Conference USA does not officially recognize the men's squad, as the league does not field enough teams to hold official conference championships. Heading the list of TCU women's honorees are senior Jamie MacCurdy (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) and sophomore Erin Irons (Midland, Texas/Midland), who earned all-C-USA plaudits in six different events. MacCurdy was named all-conference in the 200 and 400 individual medley, 200 backstroke and as a member of the Lady Frogs' 400 medley relay. Irons joined the team in the 200 and 500 freestyle, 200 back and with TCU's 200 medley relay. Both women swam with the Horned Frogs' 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays to round out the duo's all-conference performances. On the men's side, junior Aaron Ewert (Dallas, Texas/Garland) led the way with coaches' honors in seven events. He gained recognition in the 50 free and 100 and 200 back, and as a member of TCU's 200 and 400 medley and free relay squads. Junior Jeff Parkinson (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill) and sophomore Aaron McLachlan (Arvada, Colo./Pomona/U. of Nebraska) each earned plaudits in six events. Parkinson was named to the squad in the 100 and 200 free and as a member of the Frogs' 200, 400 and 800 free and 400 medley relays. McLachlan garnered honors in the 100 and 200 butterfly, 200 IM and with TCU's 200 medley and 400 and 800 free relays. "These honors are the culmination of a lot of hard work by our swimmers," TCU head coach Richard Sybesma said. "I'm very proud of our whole team not just because of their performances at the conference meet, but all season." As a team, the TCU men won the league's Men's Invitational, while the Lady Frogs finished third in the inaugural C-USA Championships.
