Moreau Named C-USA Swimmer of the Week
Jan. 28, 2003 CHICAGO - On the strength of six victories in meets versus Houston and Rice, TCU sophomore Aimee Moreau (Kenner, La./St. Martin's Episcopal) has been named Conference USA Swimmer of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The honor gives the Horned Frogs three out of eight C-USA Swimmers of the Week this season. Junior Erin Irons earned the distinction on Nov. 5 and Jan. 14. Moreau was one of two Horned Frogs to notch three victories in Friday night's 136-107 rout of Houston. She helped the Frogs' 400-yard medley (3:59.12) and 200-yard freestyle (1:38.97) relays to wins, as well as capturing the 200 backstroke (2:07.32) individually. In Saturday's setback versus Rice, Moreau had a hand in each of TCU's three race victories over the Owls. She swept the meet's backstroke events, taking the 100 in 58.55 and the 200 in 2:05.97, as well as helping the Frogs' 400 free relay to victory in 3:32.93. For the season, the versatile Moreau ranks among TCU's top five in seven different events. She also swims for the Frogs' top 400 freestyle relay squad. As a team, the Frogs' weekend split gave them a final regular-season record of 12-2. The mark surpasses the 1980-81 Horned Frogs' 12-3-1 record as the best in head coach Richard Sybesma's 24 seasons at the helm of the TCU swimming and diving programs. Moreau and the Frogs return to action Feb. 23-25 when they go for their first-ever conference title at the C-USA Championships in Indianapolis. |
