ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Led by Catherine Matranga's 1-over-par 73, the TCU women's golf team is in sixth place after Thursday's opening round of the Mountain West Conference Championship.

Matranga is in sixth place individually, just one shot off the pace set by five players who are tied for first.

With a 3-over 291, No. 11 and two-time defending MWC champion UNLV holds a nine-stroke lead over No. 26 BYU. No. 36 TCU (312, +24) is 21 strokes behind the Rebels and just two shots back of San Diego State for fourth.
