TCU Women's Golf Bolts Out to First-Round Lead
March 23, 2003 BOERNE, Texas - TCU women's golf team, in search of its second straight tournament title, jumped out on Sunday to an impressive 13-stroke lead after firing a 298 (+10) over the first 18 holes of the Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shootout. Sophomore D'Rae Ward, who claimed an individual victory at last week's Waterlefe/USF Invitational, continued blistering the links, and is out to a three-stroke lead. Ward, who picked up her first collegiate title at the Waterlefe/USF Invitational, had a career-best round of 67. She was one of just two golfers among the 69 competitors who broke par on day one. Meanwhile, freshman Stephanie Godare also continued her strong play. Godare, who had a career-best 10th-place finish in the Frogs' last outing, is in third place at the Baylor Invitational after shooting an even-par 72. Junior Brooke Tull posted a 77 (+5) to sit in a tie for 13th place. Freshman Traci Robison (81) and senior Shannon Barr (83) closed out the TCU scoring. Illinois (311), Missouri (311), Baylor (312) and Wisconsin (313) are TCU's closest competitors at the tournament. The event is being played at the par-72, 6,007-yard Tapatio Springs Golf Resort in Boerne, Texas. Two rounds remain in the Shootout with 18 holes each scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at the Tapatio Springs Resort.
