Women's Golf Falls Into Share of Ninth
March 22, 2004
Austin, Texas - The TCU women's golf team faced a tough test on the golf course at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational today, slipping five spots in the standings after a 38-over-par score of 326. Senior Brooke Tull, who entered the day as the team's leader, suffered a huge blow on the 15th hole. She dropped into tie for 31st, while freshman Camille Blackerby stepped up to lead the Frogs at a tie for 16th. As a team, the Horned Frogs finished the day in a three-way tie for ninth after opening in fifth place. Tull's day started off on the wrong foot when she bogeyed on the first hole, and followed up with two double-bogeys in a row. The rest of the day she traded bogeys and birdies, bringing herself to as high as seventh individually before a disastrous 15th hole, wherein she collected a quadruple-bogey. She finished her day at an 11-over par 83. Blackerby spent most of her day making par on the holes or hitting one-over, as she did on seven of the first eight holes. Due to a tough scoring day, Blackerby managed to move up into a tie for 16th with her six-over par score of 78. Freshman Catherine Matranga's day also had a rough start with a quadruple-bogey on the first hole that set her back four-over par from the get-go. Three birdies kept her in the game, and she finished with a nine-over par of 78. Freshman Stacey Bieber suffered several bogeys and broke even for most of the day, finishing her second round with a 12-over score of 84. The two are tied at 48th individually.
Meanwhile, freshman Elin Emanuelsson had the toughest day, with double- and triple-bogeys adding up throughout the second half of her day. She finished +21 for the day with a 93 and currently ranks 80th.
Vanderbilt's Chris Brady maintained her hold on the top individual spot, leading by five shots over the nearest competition. As a team, UNLV caught up with Texas with scores of 628 (+52).
