In the first half of play, Mallary Gillespie, Ambrosia Anderson and Dani Kubik combined for 33 of BYU's 36 points. This marked the ninth time this season that three BYU players finished in double figures, scoring 54 of 63 points for the game.
BYU improved to 21-1 on the season when leading at halftime. TCU falls to 3-9 on the season when trailing at half.
TCU's last four field goals of the first half all came from beyond the arc. Adrianne Ross scored the final nine points of the half for TCU on a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range.
BYU junior Dani Kubik led the Cougars with a career-high 24 points against TCU. On the season, Kubik led the Cougars in scoring in six contests, including today. She also pulled down 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
Kubik's 75 percent (9-12) shooting from the floor is fifth all-time in the MWC tournament and set the record for shooting percentage in a semifinal game (min. 10 attempts), moving ahead of Danielle Cheesman of BYU (.636, vs. Utah, 3/14/03).
Ambrosia Anderson, BYU's leading scorer (18.4 ppg.) was held to 12 points by TCU but tallied her eighth double-double of the season with a team-high tying 10 rebounds. Anderson has led BYU in rebounding in 15 games this season, including today.
BYU will make its fifth appearance in seven years in the MWC tournament finals. BYU played in the first four championship games, falling to Utah (61-47) in 2000, falling to Colorado State (59-56) in 2001, beating UNLV (61-46) in 2002 and falling to New Mexico (52-46).
The championship game between No. 1 BYU and No. 2 Utah will mark the fourth time in seven years that the one and two seeds meet in the finals. The No. 1 seed is 3-0 in those games.
TCU is 6-2 in their last eight contests, with both losses coming to BYU.
