Ross shoots TCU past Colorado State
Feb. 22, 2006
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Adrianne Ross tied a career-high with 24 points, including 19 in the first half, to lead the TCU women's basketball team to an 83-57 victory over Colorado State Wednesday night at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas. Ross' scoring total in the opening 20 minutes was just five points shy of a career-high 24 in a Jan. 11 win over New Mexico. She was nine-of-14 from the field, including three-of-four from 3-point range. TCU shot 61.5 percent (16-of-26) from the field in the first half. It was the second time in three games the Lady Frogs had a season-high field-goal percentage for the opening 20 minutes of a contest. TCU hit 58.6 percent of its attempts in an 84-79 win at Air Force (Feb. 15). The Lady Frogs shot 45.9 percent for the game compared to 37.7 for the Rams. TCU hit a season-best 10 3-pointers in going 10-of-20 behind the arc, including seven-of-11 (63.6 percent) in the first half. The Lady Frogs held a 44-29 rebounding edge. Natasha Lacy scored 17 points for TCU while Vanessa Clementino and Lorie Butler-Rayford both added 10 to give the Lady Frogs four players in double figures. TCU (15-9, 9-4) trailed by as many as four points in the first half before taking the lead for good at 18-17 on a Ross 3-pointer. It began a 22-2 run over a 7:24 stretch for the Lady Frogs. It was also one of three first-half treys for Ross, who scored eight consecutive TCU points in one stretch and totaled 19 first-half points. TCU led 46-22 at the intermission and stretched its lead to as large as 30 points in the second half. Coupled with an 80-49 Saturday win over San Diego State, TCU has won its last two games by a combined margin of 57 points. The Lady Frogs have scored at least 80 points in three straight games after reaching that mark just once in the opening 21 contests this season. Colorado State (8-16, 2-11) was led by Melissa Dennett's 17 points. The Lady Frogs were making their next-to-last home appearance in the 2005-06 campaign. TCU is at BYU Saturday and Utah Thursday before closing the regular season with a March 4 home date versus UNLV.
