FORT WORTH, Texas - After closing out the 2006 season with a tough 4-3 loss to No. 48 San Diego State on April 16, the 33rd-ranked TCU men's tennis team looks to rebound and capture its first conference championship under head coach Joey Rivé as it heads to San Diego, Calif., on Thursday to compete in the Mountain West Conference Championships.

The men's team is highlighted by two ranked singles players and a doubles squad. Sophomore Andrei Mlendea headlines the group as he occupies the No. 32 spot in the singles poll. Senior Rafael Abreu comes in at No. 93 and he holds the No. 24 slot in doubles while paired with Jordan Freitas.

TCU began its season with a 5-2 victory over No. 36 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi then won its next five matches to start 6-0 for the second straight year. The Frogs fell one match short of tying their season-high win streak after starting conference play 5-0.

Defending Mountain West Conference champion San Diego State is the only blemish on the Frogs' conference record this season.

TCU opens the tournament with an 11 a.m. (CST) showdown with Air Force on Thursday. In the first matchup of the season, the Frogs downed the Falcons 6-1 on April 9.
