Men's tennis falls to SMU

DALLAS - The 29th-ranked TCU men's tennis team fell to 57th-ranked SMU 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon at the Haggar Tennis Stadium. The Mustangs won at courts No. 2 and No. 3 to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 advantage in the match. TCU's senior tandem of Rafael Abreu and Jordan Freitas, ranked 48th in the ITA doubles poll, claimed an 8-6 victory at No. 1 over David Kuczer and Alex Skrypko. Abreu also prevailed in singles (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) over Peter Oredsson at court No. 1. Currently ranked 96th in the ITA singles poll, Abreu has won three of his last four matches in singles play. Sophomore Andrei Mlendea also picked up a win in singles with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 over Federico Murgier. Hailing from Oradea, Romania, Mlendea jumped 24 spots in this month's singles poll to No. 40. Junior Radu Barbu tallied a 6-4, 6-4 win over Henrik Soderberg at No. 5. The Frogs return to action on Friday when they travel to Albuquerque, N.M., to take on 74th-ranked New Mexico. Match time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (CST) |
