TCU Swimming Falls to Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (October 23, 2000)--The TCU men's and women's
swimming and diving teams competed in their first events of the season on
Friday and both suffered dual meet losses to Big 12 opponent Texas A&M.
The women were defeated by a score of 166-106, while the men dropped a
171-94 decision to the Aggies.
Higlighting the women's team was freshman Jamie Robinson, who snared two of the team's three individual titles. Robinson won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:08.18 and claimed a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.54. She also was on a pair of second-place relay teams: the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays. TCU's other women's winner was junior Marisa Schenke, who logged a winning time of 58:46 in the 100-yard backstroke. Teammate Jamie MacCurdy took second place in the event (59:27) to give the Frogs a one-two finish. MacCurdy, a junior, also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:04.26. On the men's side, sophomore Aaron Ewert claimed the men's lone victory by posting a time of 51:21 in the 100-yard backstroke. Senior Ryan Mammarella had a pair of second-place individual finishes: the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.35) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:37.49). He also was a member of second-place relay teams in the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relays. Next up for TCU's teams is the annual Alumni-Varsity meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 28 at the Rickel Center.
