TCU Swimming Sets Three School Records at UT Invite
Dec. 2, 2001
AUSTIN, Texas - At a meet featuring nine top-25 teams in its 11-team men's and women's fields, TCU swimming made its mark by setting three school records Friday through Sunday at the 2001 UT Invitational in Austin, Texas. Leading the way for the Horned Frogs were women's squad members Erin Irons (Midland, Texas/Midland), Jamie MacCurdy (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) and Jamie Robinson (Greeley, Colo./Central). Irons, a sophomore, notched two school records, posting a 1:52.21 in the 200-yard freestyle to break her own mark of 1:52.35. She also teamed up with MacCurdy and freshmen Lisa Champ (Canby, Ore.) and Aimee Moreau (Kenner, La./St. Martin's Episcopal) to notch the TCU best-ever 400 freestyle relay time of 3:29.03. The previous record of 3:29.67, set in 1986, was TCU's oldest-standing swimming record. Robinson set the school mark in the 200 breastroke, notching a 2:17.14 to break her own record of 2:17.89. The time was also good for an NCAA 'B' qualification, which may land the sophomore in next March's national championship meet. MacCurdy joined Robinson as an NCAA 'B' qualifier, posting a 2:02.26 in the 200-yard backstroke. The qualification time was the fourth of the senior's career. For the TCU men, senior Scott Adkins (El Paso, Texas) earned a finalist spot in the very competitive field, placing seventh in the 200 breastroke with a time of 2:02.49. The Lady Frogs finished ninth in the prestigious field of 14 (including diving teams), ahead of national powers Rice and UCLA, tallying 95 team points. The men closed the meet placing 13th overall with 39 points. TCU closed its fall schedule with the women sporting a 6-1 duel meet record while the men go into the break at 5-2. Both teams will resume competition January 12, 2002 versus Delta State and La.-Monroe in Cleveland, Miss.
