Horned Frog Men Move Into Tie For Fourth
May 30, 2002 COLUMBUS, Ohio - The TCU Horned Frog men moved into a tie for fourth place after nabbing their second straight one-under par score of 283 at the 2002 NCAA Men's Golf Championships. At two-under for the tournament, the Horned Frogs trail co-leaders Clemson and Georgia Tech by just three strokes. TCU began the day in a three-way tie for eighth. Once again leading the way was junior Adam Rubinson, who posted a four-under par 67 to leap into a tie for second place individually. Rubinson overcame a double-bogey on the first hole, scoring seven birdies, nine pars and just one bogey the rest of the way. His score was the third-best single round of the tournament. Fellow Frog Bret Guetz picked up his 11th consecutive par-or-better round, as he closed the day with his second straight 70 (-1). He now resides in a share of 18th place. In a tie for 75th place is TCU senior Andy Doeden, who is three-over (145) through two rounds. Doeden shot a 74 on day two. Freshman J.J. Killeen notched a one-over 72 to move into the field's top 100, while Steve Shuert slipped into a tie for 143rd after shooting a 78 in round two. TCU is making its ninth appearance in the NCAA Championships since 1990. It is the first NCAA Championships experience for Rubinson, Shuert and Killeen, while Doeden placed tied for 20th and Guetz shared 38th place at the 2000 NCAAs. TCU's best finish under head coach Bill Montigel was a tie for seventh in 1997. TCU, Texas and North Carolina, all tied for fourth place, will tee off beginning at 7:45 a.m. (ET) on Friday. The top 15 teams all tee off in the morning. Live individual and team scoring of the NCAA Championships can be found on www.golfstat.com throughout the entire 72-hole tournament.
