Men's Golf Tied For Second at Conference Tournament
April 21, 2003 DADE CITY, Fla. - At the Conference USA Men's Golf Championships at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club, the TCU Horned Frogs, in search of their third straight conference title, posted a first-round 288 (+4) to share second place among the 14 league schools. TCU is three shots behind Charlotte (285) and even with UAB (288). In all, six teams are within seven shots of the lead. Senior Adam Rubinson posted an opening-round 69 (-2), a score that has him tied for third among the 70 individuals. He played one-under on both sides of the course, which is a 7,083-yard, par-71 layout. Rubinson is looking to become the second straight Horned Frog to win the conference tournament, as former Frog Bret Guetz took home medalist honors in 2002. Junior Adam Meyer also is among the leaders, as his one-under 70 is good for a share of fifth place. Meyer, who bogeyed the final hole, was one of just seven players to shoot under par for the day. Sophomore J.J. Killeen is tied for 29th with a three-over 74. He was even-par heading into No. 15 before losing three strokes on the final four holes. Sophomore David Schultz, who won the ASU Thunderbird crown in the Frogs' last event, notched a 75 (+4). He is currently tied for 39th, while freshman Colby Beckstrom (T-45th) carded a five-over 76. The teams play 18 holes Tuesday before a final round on Wednesday. Tee times both days start at 8 a.m. (ET), while the Horned Frogs will begin play at 10:51 a.m. tomorrow.
