TCU Men's Golf In Second At Morris Williams Intercollegiate
March 15, 2004 AUSTIN, Texas - The ninth-ranked TCU Horned Frogs are in second place, just one stroke behind BYU, following a pair of stellar rounds to open the Morris Williams Intercollegiate. The Horned Frogs posted under-par scores in both the morning and afternoon rounds at the Austin Country Club and sport an overall team score of 567 (-9). Sophomore Colby Beckstrom leads a quartet of Frog golfers who rank among the field's top 20 individuals. Beckstrom is tied for sixth place after a three-under-par score of 141. His card of 69 in round one showed five birdies and a pair of bogeys. He is looking for his fourth top 10 finish of the season.
Adam Meyer recorded a pair of one-under 71s and has a share of 13th place. Despite bogeys on two of his last three holes on Monday, the senior is just one stroke behind Beckstrom
A pair of Frogs, Stephen Polanski and J.J. Killeen, are tied for 16th at one-under (143). Polanski matched the team's best score of the day with a 69 in round two, while Killeen had an even-par 72 on the first 18 holes and a 71 (-1) on the second 18. Playing as an individual for TCU, freshman Drew Stoltz is tied for 60th after a score of 158 (+14). Six of the 15 teams at the Morris Williams tournament are ranked among the top 25 in the most recent GCAA/Precept Coaches' Poll. The ranked teams include: No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 8 Texas, No. 9 TCU, No. 16 California, No. 18 Arkansas and No. 20 BYU. TCU is looking for its first victory and fifth top-three finish in seven events in the 2003-04 season. On Tuesday, TCU will be paired with BYU and Oklahoma State beginning at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring can be viewed on www.golfstat.com.
