SUGAR GROVE, Ill. (May 19, 2007) - The TCU men's golf team saw its season come to a close Saturday at the NCAA Central Regional, as the team finished 25th at the event. TCU, one of fewer than 20 teams nationally to qualify for each of the past 18 NCAA Regionals, needed a top-10 finish in order to reach the NCAA Championships.

TCU played its best golf of the tournament on the final day, as the Horned Frogs recorded a 22-over-par score of 310. It matched the eighth-best total of the day, and was the best effort by any school in the 12-team afternoon wave. Tournament champion Tulsa, which played 8-under on Friday, also carded a final-day 310.

Some of the windiest conditions of the event caused the average final-round scores to approach 80 for the second time in three days. The difficult Rich Harvest Farms course (par 72, 7,214 yards) has been selected to host the 2009 Solheim Cup.

Drew Stoltz led the way for TCU in the last round with a 3-over 75. Competing in his final collegiate tournament, the senior from Fort Collins, Colo., played the first eight holes at 1-under. Stoltz finished in a tie for 89th at 237 (+21).

For the week, the team's top performer was sophomore Jesse Speirs, who tied for 63rd. Speirs shot a final-round 77 to post a 54-hole sum of 234 (+18). He began and ended the round with bookend birdies and also had back-to-back birdies on the second nine.

Freshman Travis Woolf scored a 79 (+7) on Saturday to finish in a share of 95th position.at 239 (+23). He bounced back from an 87 (+15) in the first round to play the last 36 holes at just 8-over.

Sophomores Robby Ormand (81) and Jon McLean (79) shot their best scores on the final day. They placed tied for 125th and 129th, respectively.

With the exception of Stoltz, 28th-ranked TCU returns its entire team for the 2007-08 campaign.
