TCU Golfers Tie For 10th in Second Spring Tournament

FORT WORTH, Texas - Ninth-rated TCU finished with a share of 10th place out of 15 teams at the highly-competitive Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas, Nev. The Horned Frogs recorded a final-round 300 on Sunday to wind up with a 54-hole sum of 896 (+32). No. 15 UNLV easily won the team title, scoring a nine-under-par 855 over the three rounds. Third-rated Georgia (870) and No. 10 Florida (872) came in second and third respectively. Senior J.J. Killeen once again paved the way for the Horned Frogs, as he finished in a tie for 10th place individually. It was his second straight top-10 finish of the spring season and the fifth of his career. He shot a one-over-par 73 on Sunday to close the event with a three-round 216 (E). Fellow senior David Schultz landed in a tie for 25th among the 80 participants. He had his highest score of the three rounds, a 76, to complete the tourney with a 222 (+6). Colby Beckstrom also had a four-over score of 76 in the final round to finish with a plus-nine score of 225. He placed in a tie for 40th individually.
True freshman Franklin Corpening began the third round in a tie for 72nd, but moved up six spots after his best effort of the 54-hole tournament. He carded a three-over 75 on Sunday in a round that included an eagle. Junior Jeff Marcinowski struggled with a final-round 88 to sit in 79th place with an overall score of 249 (+33). The tournament featured 12 teams in the top 15 according to the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll. The field included: No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 2 Georgia Tech, No. 3 Georgia, No. 4 New Mexico, No. 5 Auburn, No. 6 Wake Forest, No. 9 TCU, No. 10 Florida, No. 11 Texas, No. 12 Arizona State, No. 13 UCLA, No. 15 UNLV, No. 18 Clemson, No. 23 Washington and unranked South Carolina.
