Frogs place 10th at USC Collegiate

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Horned Frog men's golf team finished in 10th place at the USC Collegiate Invitational in Westlake Village, Calif., after a final-round 294 (+10). The Frogs completed the two-day, 54-hole event with a score of 884 (+32) and fell just six strokes shy of sixth place. Top-ranked Stanford won the team title with a 4-under 848. No. 5 Southern California placed second, five shots back. The 15-team field featured six schools ranked among the nation's top 20. The tournament, TCU's second of the spring season, was played at the North Ranch C.C. (par 71, 6,742 yards). Sophomore Jesse Speirs landed a career-best 15th-place finish with a three-round 216 (+3). He carded an even-par, final-round 71 to post his second career top-20 finish. In his two events this spring, the Bangor, Maine, product boasts an impressive 70.5 scoring average. Jon McLean finished outside the top 20 for just the third time in six tournaments, as he shared 33rd position. The sophomore's 75 on Tuesday gave him an 8-over 221. Drew Stoltz had his best round of the tournament on the final day, a 1-over 72. He tied for 45th place at 224 (+11), edging teammate Franklin Corpening. The junior had a final-round 78 to complete the event with a 225 (+12), good for a share of 47th. Freshman Travis Woolf shot a 5-over 76 on Tuesday, but did not receive a final placing after being disqualified in the second round. TCU's final competitor, sophomore Robby Ormand (234), placed 73rd while playing as an individual.
