FORT WORTH, Texas - The All-American Football Foundation has announced that TCU/ISP Radio Network analyst John Denton is the recipient of the 2007 Lindsey Nelson Outstanding Broadcaster Award. The award, which is named after the longtime voice of the Cotton Bowl as well as Tennessee and Notre Dame athletics, is presented annually by the foundation to honor broadcasting excellence in college football and dedication to the game through many years of service.

Over his nearly two decades in the TCU press box, Denton has called 220 regular-season football games and 10 bowl games. He has worked with five conference championship teams, and his work has spanned four different head coaches and four different conference affiliations.

"When reviewing all the candidates, John's 18 years of on-air dedication to TCU and the game of college football jumped out at us," Jimmie McDowell, President of the All-American Football Foundation said. "College football is about tradition and John represents that well on-air."

The award will be presented at the 85th All-American Football Foundation Banquet on May 17 at the Hyatt Regency Dallas.

"Lindsey Nelson was a New Year's Day icon when I was growing up in Dallas," Denton said. "To win the Lindsey Nelson Award is a great honor, not only for me, but for what is says about the football program at TCU and the great things that are happening on campus. I dedicate the award to my TCU/ISP radio crew and all the people whom I have worked with over the years. They taught me so much that helped me grow as a broadcaster."

Among his other duties, Denton has provided color commentary for TCU men's basketball for the past two seasons. He has also worked as an ESPN television analyst for college football and basketball and can be heard as a guest host on ESPN 103.3 FM in Fort Worth/Dallas. Additionally, Denton has drawn assignments from Westwood One and CBS Radio Sports on their coverage of various college bowl games, the NCAA Basketball Tournament, NFL Monday Night Football, NFL Playoffs and Major League Baseball's Game of the Week.

"I could think of no one more deserving than John for this award," TCU Director of Broadcasting Brian Estridge said. "His enthusiasm and passion for college football are evident in both his preparation and his on-air presence."

Denton, who came to TCU as a walk-on, earned a full scholarship and lettered four years as a kicker and punter for the Horned Frogs from 1981-84. He finished his playing career at TCU with an appearance in the 1984 Bluebonnet Bowl.

Denton graduated from TCU in 1985 with a degree in broadcast journalism, and returned to the TCU campus in 2005 as Director of the TCU Frog Club, raising scholarship funds for student-athletes. He is a member of the Football Writers Association of America and serves on the Board of Directors of the Fort Worth Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Denton and his wife, Linda, reside in Southlake with their two daughters, Erin and Meredith.
