April 2, 2007

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- TCU defensive end Tommy Blake has been named to the 2007 Lott Trophy Watch List.

Named after USC All-American and NFL Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, the Lott Trophy is in its fourth year and is the only college football award to recognize the personal character and leadership qualities of each candidate as well as their on-field football performance.

Previous recipients of the Lott Trophy have been David Pollack (Georgia), DeMeco Ryans (Alabama) and Daymeion Hughes (Cal).

Blake, named last month to the Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List, led the Mountain West Conference in 2006 with 16.5 tackles for a loss while tying for the league lead with seven sacks. He earned Defensive Most Valuable Player honors in the 37-7 Poinsettia Bowl victory over Northern Illinois.

A rising senior from Aransas Pass, Texas, Blake was a unanimous first-team All-MWC selection. He was also a first-team pick in 2005.
