Fort Worth, Texas - TCU senior pitcher Shawn Ferguson and junior pitcher Brent Allar were the final two Frogs to be taken on the first day of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft. Ferguson was the 16th pick of the 9th round by the Milwaukee Brewers and the 272nd player taken overall, while Allar was the 9th pick of the 14th round by the Baltimore Orioles.

Ferguson transferred to TCU in the fall of 2004 after spending the previous season at San Jacinto Junior College in Houston. He has played many roles in his two seasons at TCU, spending last season in the bullpen as a closer and making the transition to part-time starter in 2006. He made 44 appearances in his two seasons and four starts. He finished with a record of 5-5 to go along with four saves. In 70.2 career innings pitched, Ferguson racked up 90 strikeouts.

As a junior, Ferguson was selected in the 36th round of the 2005 MLB Draft by the Baltimore Orioles, but elected to come back to school.

Allar transferred to TCU this past fall from Weatherford Junior College. He elected to come to TCU after being selected in the 11th round by the Milwaukee Brewers. He made 13 appearances and one start in his season with the Frogs. In 13.2 innings pitched, the junior fanned 16 batters and picked up two saves.

In all, the Frogs had four players drafted on day one. Earlier in the day, Chad Huffman was selected with the 53rd overall pick by the San Diego Padres with fellow teammate Brad Furnish chosen with pick No. 54 by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Eight players from the Mountain West were chosen on day one. San Diego State had three players selected on day one and Utah had one draftee.
