Frogs Defeat Cincinnati 12-6 For Ninth-Straight C-USA Victory
April 27, 2003 AMELIA, Ohio - Jake Duncan (Marshall, Texas/Marshall) tied career highs with four hits and four RBI to lead TCU to its ninth-straight Conference USA win, 12-6 over Cincinnati Sunday afternoon at Midland Field. The victory completed a three-game sweep of the Bearcats for TCU and kept the Horned Frogs within a game of league-leading Southern Miss. In all, Duncan went 4-for-6 on the day, including a home run down the right field line in the fourth that gave TCU a 6-0 lead. The Frogs extended the advantage to 7-0 before Cincinnati exploded for six runs in the fifth to cut the TCU lead to 7-6. However, TCU answered with three in the top of the sixth regain a four-run advantage at 10-6. A mammoth two-run homer off the bat of Chris Neuman's (Fort Worth, Texas/Western Hills) in the ninth closed out the scoring. Three Horned Frog relievers combined for 4.1 innings of shutout ball after UC got within a run. Ryan Grafe (Austin, Texas/Lanier) allowed just two hits and struck out three in 2.1 stanzas of work to pick up the win and raise his season record to 4-1. Overall, TCU has won nine of its last 10 contests to up its season record to 29-16 and 16-5 in C-USA. The Bearcats fell to 12-30 and 5-16 in C-USA.
TCU will close its five-game road trip when it plays its final non-conference game of the season Tuesday afternoon at Sam Houston State. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. in Huntsville.
