Hawaii Pounds Out 14 Hits En Route To 11-4 Victory Over TCU
FORT WORTH, Texas - Hawaii
pounded out 14 hits, including three home runs in a 11-4 win Saturday
at the TCU Diamond. The
Frogs drop to 23-17 overall, 13-8 in WAC action. Hawaii improves to
18-20 overall, 8-14 in
WAC play.
Hawaii catcher Brian Bock led the Rainbows with four hits, including a double. The Rainbows scored twice in the first and once in the second to take a 3-1 lead. Gregg Omori drove in three runs on three hits, including a double and a first-inning home run, his seventh of the year. TCU's lone run in the first came on a pair of hits, a leadoff single by Terry Trofholz and a run-scoring base hit by Tom Bates. The Frogs closed the Rainbow lead to 4-2 in the fifth on a Trofholz single and a groundout. The Rainbows increased the lead to 7-2 in the sixth, scoring three runs on three hits, including doubles by Bock and Arthur Guillen. Hawaii added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh on solo home runs by Danny Kimura and Bock. TCU came up with two runs in the bottom half of the seventh on two hits and a Hawaii throwing error. Trofholz singled and scored on a groundout, then Rudy Ontiveros, who had reached on the error, scored on a Bates double. Trofholz led the Frogs with three hits, three runs scored and three stolen bases. Ontiveros, Bates, Jonathan Marshall and Mike Settle each had two hits. The Frogs stranded 12 men on the bases, including at least one batter in every inning but the fifth. Hawaii starting pitcher Jeff Coleman pitched eight strong innings, allowing four runs, three earned on 12 hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. After throwing 148 pitches, Coleman was pulled at the end of the eighth. Bryan Lee pitched a scoreless ninth to close the game. TCU starter Chris Bradshaw suffered the loss, his third in as many starts. Bradshaw allowed five runs, four earned on seven hits, one walk and eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings. The series will continue on Sunday, April 15 with a single-game. First-pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
