Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs scored 13 runs on 12 hits as they topped Air Force 13-2 for their fourth straight victory Saturday afternoon at Lupton Stadium. Bryan Kervin was the offensive star as he went 3-for-3 at the plate with five RBIs, including his first career home run, a grand slam in the seventh inning. Four other Frogs recorded two hit contests. Brad Furnish earned the win with five shutout innings.

Chad Huffman extended his hit streak to 16 games as he put the Frogs on top with his third home run of the season, a two-run shot that score Kervin who led off the inning with a base knock.

A four-run outburst in the second inning gave TCU a 6-0 advantage. Andrew Walker drew a lead off walk and moved to third on a Matt Vern base hit. Corey Steglich hit a sacrifice fly to plate Walker and a Kervin single brought home Vern. The Air Force shortstop committed an error, allowing two more runs to come around and score.

After a scoreless third inning, the Frogs posted a run in each of the next three innings before a four-run explosion in the seventh. TCU got RBIs from Steven Trout in the fourth, Steglich in the fifth and Keith Conlon in the sixth inning.

Air Force picked up their lone runs in the top of the sixth inning, scoring twice on three singles. Geno Salazar hit a one-out single and scored on a Karl Bolt groundout. Austin Ferreria collected a two-out RBI base hit to account for the only other Falcon run. After six, the Frogs led 7-2.

TCU put the game out of reach in the seventh inning as they sent 10 men to the plate. Vern walked, Steglich was hit by a pitch and Austin Adams walked, loading the bases for Kervin, who sent the first pitch he saw sailing over the right-field fence to give the Frogs the 13-2 lead.

Furnish (2-5) went five innings, allowed just two hits, one walk and struck out seven. Following a two-out walk in the first, Furnish retired 13 of the last 14 batters he faced, including a stretch of 12 straight.

Chase Perry went two innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out one and walked one. Shawn Ferguson and Brent Allar went one inning each to help preserve the win for the Frogs.

TCU improves to 18-15 on the season and 5-1 in conference play. They will go for the series sweep on Sunday at Lupton Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
