FORT WORTH, Texas The TCU Volleyball team opened its 2000
invitational
tournament by splitting a pair of games with the University of San
Francisco
and Tulane Friday, September 15 at the Rickel Center.
TCU dropped a heartbreaker to San Francisco in five games. The
Frogs took
commanding leads in the first three games (9-2, 10-0, and 10-0)
against the
Dons but could not close them out. Though San Francisco struggled
in the
early going they managed to salvage game one and put together a
plan-of-attack to take games four and five.
"I give credit to San Francisco for battling back and playing us
into five
games," said Coach Sandy Troudt. "They did a great job of spreading
our
defense and taking away our blocks in games four and fiveour
defensive
blocks were a big part of our offense until the last two games"
The Frogs recorded 17 team blocks, including four block solos and
seven
block assists from Allison Lynch. Marci King led the offense with
new
season highs in kills (24) and attacks (43), while Lindsay Hayes
registered
her new season high in assist (67).
TCU bounced back in the nightcap shutting out Tulane in three games.
Once
again the Frogs jumped out to quick leads in games one and two
(11-3, 7-0),
this time holding on to win.
"I was real proud of our team for its emotional and mental comeback
after
the loss," said Troudt. "We had a few players that really stepped
up their
gameBethany Toce played an awesome game and really gave us the
outside
hitting we needed."
Toce played her best game of the season, recording eight kills on 22
attacks. Amy Atamanczuk bounced back against Tulane to hit .368
after
hitting just .094 against San Francisco.
