Flyin' Frogs Set for Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships
May 13, 2003 The TCU Flyin' Frogs are set for the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held this weekend, May 15-17, in Charlotte, NC. The TCU men are the defending conference champions, after posting 132.5 points in Louisville last year. The Frogs are actually the two-time defending conference champions, having also won the WAC Outdoor title in 2001. The TCU women placed fourth at last year's outdoor meet, scoring 65 points. Their best showing in school history came in 2001 when they tied for third for the Western Athletic Conference crown with 110 points. "We're optimistic," said TCU Head Coach Monte Stratton. "For the first time in the outdoor season, we're healthy. We're not only looking for, but expecting our best performances to date. We hope to challenge for the win on the men's side, a top three finish on the women's side and to get out healthy so we can get ready for the regional meet in two weeks." The TCU Horned Frogs men's track team is ranked in a tie for the 18th best track & field team in the nation for the second straight week, according to this week's Trackwire Top25 poll. The Frogs are slated to score 14 points at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Trackwire predicts a third place finish by the Flyin' Frogs in both the 4x100 meter relay (6 points) and the 4x400 meter relay (6 points). They also project a seventh place finish from Aundre Edwards in the long jump (2 points) and a ninth-place finish from Jackson Langat in the 800 meters. The Frogs entered the outdoor season ranked in a tie for 17th placed with 14 points. On the women's side, Monica Twum is ranked 10th in the 100 meters and the 4x100 meter relay team is slated to finish sixth at the national meet.
