Track continues impressive performances in day two of Penn Relays
April 28, 2006
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Flyin' Frogs continue to impress on the track as the second day of the 2006 Penn Relays came down to a wind at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa. The TCU women's 4x100 meter relay team posted its fastest time this season, while Justyn Warner and three relay squads will appear in the finals of their respective events on Saturday. "It has been a perfect weekend for us so far," TCU track and field head coach Darryl Anderson said. "Everyone stepped up where they needed to. Both our men and women relay teams qualified for finals, as well as Justyn Warner who advanced to the finals of the men's 100 meters. I'm ecstatic about the performance of our women's 4x1 squad today. They ran exceptionally fast, and gave some top-ranked teams a good and close race." The Frog men got the day started with the 4x1 team winning their heat to qualify for the finals. Bradley Reed, Justyn Warner, Delwayne Delaney and Otis McDaniel combined for a 47.17 mark, the fourth-fastest time in the race. Also winning their heat was the men's 4x400 squad. The quartet of Che Chavez, Delwayne Delaney, Jackson Langat and Lewis Banda covered the oval in 3:07.62 to advance to Saturday's finals.
Warner, a freshman from Markham, Ontario (Canada), will be the lone Frog competing in the men's 100-meter finals on Saturday. He turned in a 10.52, placing third in this heat and sixth overall. In the women's 4x100 meter relay, the foursome of Kishelle Paul, Virgil Hodge, Jamee Jones, and Deborah Jones turned in their fastest time of the season with a 43.93 to place sixth overall in the College Women 4x100 "Championship." The quartet won their heat (44.54) on Thursday, beating No. 8 Stanford and 19th-ranked Tennessee to advance to Friday's finals with the second-fastest time in the event. TCU women's 4x400 relay unit will make a showing in the finals on Saturday. The team of Marquita Davis, D. Jones, Paul and Nathandra John qualified Thursday after posting a season-best time of 3:34.16, placing second overall in their heat. Saturday will be the conclusion of the 112th running of the Penn Relays.
