VB LIONS TAKE HENDERSON STATE, 3-2

COMMERCE - Closing the decisive fifth game on a 5-1 run, the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions turned back Henderson State 3-2 in the women's volleyball home opener Tuesday at the Field House. The Lions (5-4) were down 11-10 in the fifth game when they strung together three straight points on a Lady Reddie service error and two kills from senior Tosha Spin, her seventh and eighth on the night. The Lady Reddies (3-5) then traded errors with A&M-Commerce to give the Lions a 14-12 advantage in Game 5. Spain and Jennifer Hill then assisted in blocking a Lady Reddie attack, giving the Lions the final score. The Lions came back to win the match on scores of 24-30, 30-26, 30-21, 18-30, and 15-12. Four Lions reached double figures in kills. Jane Latu led the way with 17, while Colleen Favaro, Brittany Williams and Jennifer Hill each struck 10. Alicia Capparelli assisted on 48 Lion points. Williams and Jackie Orr shared the lead in digs with a game-high 18. The Lady Reddies featured 19 kills from Britnee James on a 30.2 attack percentage. Amanda Schwartz added 12 kills, while Kathy Hass made good on 51 assists.
The Lions are off to the St. Edward;s Tournament in Austin on Sept. 9-10, returning to the Field House Sept. 23 to face SEU in a 7 p.m. match. +++A&M-C+++ |
