VB LIONS TAKE THILLING SEASON OPENER
Aug. 25, 2005 SAN ANGELO - The Texas A&M Univesity-Commerce volleyball Lions held firm for a decisive fifth game in their season-opening road win Thursday against Angelo State. The Lions (1-0) were led by junior Jane Latu's 14 kills for the 3-2 win (21-30, 31-29, 30-27, 23-30, 15-9) at host Angelo State's Concho Valley Classic. The Rambelle's (0-1) were successful on just nine percent of their attacks in the final game, when the Lions came threw with their best game of the match, scoring eight times on 20 attacks. Colleen Favaro, a second-team all-Lone Star Conference North pick as a freshman in 2004, debuted the season with 13 kills on a .273 attack percentage. Jennifer Hill matched with 13 kills and added 12 assists. Alicia Capparelli assisted on 44 of the 57 Lion kills, while Brittany Williams made 21 digs and eight kills. Mallory Honeycutt made 11 kills for the Rambelles and Tess Brindock assisted on 38 attacks. The Lions take on Colorado-Colorado Springs and Colorado State-Pueblo in the second day of the tournament. The Lions return home to the A&M-C Field House for their home opener Sept. 6 against Henderson State, a 7 p.m. match. +++A&M-C+++
