Lions Battle to 1-1 Draw Against East Central

The A&M-Commerce soccer team scored the first goal of the match in the 36th minute, but East Central answered back with a goal in the 58th minute to tie the game at one in Wednesday's Lone Star Conference matchup with the Lady Tigers. A&M-Commerce (4-4-2, 2-0-1) junior Jessica Pierce scored her third goal of the season in the 36th minute to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead. Following an ECU foul, senior Celia Cross sent a direct kick into the box and Pierce redirected it in for the goal. East Central (2-6-1,0-2-1) responded in the 58th minute as senior Katie Enderle netted a shot from 25 yards out to tie the game. The two teams battled for the next 52 minutes to no avail. The Lions outshot the Lady Tigers 15-11 on the afternoon and managed 10 corner kicks to East Central's one. The two teams combined for a total of five shots in overtime, none of which were on goal. Senior goalkeeper Amber Ramoz recorded four saves, while senior Tia Rew and junior Bailey Geels each tallied three shots to lead the Lions offensive attack. Lady Tiger's midfielder Michelle Grubs recorded a match-high four shots to lead East Central. The Lions return home to face St. Mary's in a non-conference game on Friday at 4 p.m. at the A&M-Commerce Soccer Field.
